arne schreiber
born 1974 in Potsdam, Germany
Simple being, experiencing and time flow becomes a strong inspiration point for the work of Arne Schreiber. His distinctive artistic manuscript is the result of a conscious choice of two seemingly contradictory approaches used by this German artist.
The first is the inclination towards minimalism. It manifests itself primarily in the deliberate use of lines or undulations, which become the bearers of a simple geometric form. This form is repeated many times, in the end it´s usually the only displayed element on the surface of an artwork. Simultaneously with the reduction of motifs, the color scale is reduced to the only color utilised for Arne Schreiber´s drawing record.
The second principle is degree of sensitivity, formed by a set of conscious and subconscious influences affecting the continuity of the lines at the time of the drawing record. These include physical aspects - author's physical strength, pressure on the drawing tool, uneven or smooth surface of the rough wall or fine paper being worked on. Conditional inner feelings and the current mental tension of the artist sometimes allows him to work in "flow" mode, in fact automatically, other times the drawing record becomes a sensitive seismogram of the current author's mental state.
All of Arne Schreiber's realizations capture real gesture, rhythm and movement. The lines can be perceived in general, in this sense they resonate in a compact, aesthetically complete depiction with its own rhythm and stratification determined by the author.
It is also possible to observe each line separately and thus perceive its singleness and uniqueness in the system of other drawing lines. There is something fragile and vanishing in the individuality of each line. The actual record of the line oscillates between the given expected course and the experience of an unique moment captured by the drawing.
The combination of fragile nature and predefined form has a special appeal to the viewer. Arne Schreiber perceives this connection, so he often chooses large format site-specific installations or interventions in public space. He likes to realize the works directly on the walls or sidewalks.
During his studies at the University of the Arts in Berlin / 1993-2000 /, Arne Schreiber took part in a study tour to India and a scholarship at the New York Studio School in the United States of America /2001-2002/.
The exhibition of Arne Schreiber at the Závodný Gallery would like to open dialogue with the architectural space and present his art to the Czech public.
Wienand Publishing House has published a publication Arne Schreiber with texts by Hans Peter Riese and Diana Weis.
